Instructor: Seth Carlson

Skill Level: All

Chasing and repousse is a technique used to create a shallow relief or pattern on a flat piece of metal. This technique spans millennia and has been utilized by several cultures worldwide. The basic chasing and repousse class will offer an introduction to the tools, techniques, and history of the craft. Students will learn how to create depth and illusion through the manipulation of light and shadow on a flat surface. Class objectives will include projects that explore technique and conceptual development. Students will create various bench exercises,  small scale jewelry, and a functional box – all with chasing and repousse techniques.

A materials fee of $220 is included in the tuition. Each student will receive handmade chasing tools, pitch bowl, and copper sheet.

Students are welcome to bring their own designs. Designs should not be larger than 5″ x 5″.
