Instructor: Juliana Kapusta

Skill Level: Beginner

The art of traditional hand hooked rugs have been admired since Colonial times. Like many fiber arts, hooked rugs were made out of necessity, utilizing scraps and upcycling worn-out clothing.  We will be working with wool, cut into strips, and pulled into loops to create a set of four, 4 and 1/4 inch square coasters.  The kit will include a hooking frame, hook, a pattern drawn on linen, backing, and all the hand-dyed 100% wool strips needed to complete the pattern.  Students will need to bring embroidery scissors. No prior experience is necessary.
All materials are included in the tuition.
About the Instructor: Juliana Kapusta is a certified rug hooking teacher who is proud to have had my rugs published in Celebration of Hand Hooked Rugs 20 , Celebration of Hand Hooked Rugs 24, Hooking Animals and Design Basics for Rug Hookers.  She currently teaches classes bimonthly in her home and has taught periodic evening classes at the local school, various activities sponsored by rug hooking guilds, at a local gift shop and at Tyler Park Center for the Arts.  For her rug hooking is a lovely reminder that beauty can come from what others discard.  It is her joy to help people find a relaxing way to fabricate art.
