Introduction to Sculpture – June 3 & 4

Instructor: Tom Antonishak

Skill Level: Beginner

This two-day class explores the very basic clay sculpting techniques for those just learning how to work with materials such as air-dry clay and working with various tools.  Students will sculpt an adult penguin and a chick.  You will learn about building an armature, as well as why and how you can support your sculpture.  What type of clay you can use and various tools available.  A basic armature, tools, and air-dry clay are included.

All materials and tools will be provided.

About the instructor:

Born and raised in western Pennsylvania and attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, I have been painting and sculpturing for over 50 years.  I must say it’s true that an artist dips his brush into his soul, and how fortunate I am to sculpt with my heart!  I have sculpted numerous fountains of life size bronze figures and animals.  My painting background has helped in the designs of my sculptures.  I find as I paint I’m always thinking of what the subject looks like three dimensionally as well.  My painting and sculpturing styles are marked with an acute sense of detail and intensity.
