Instructor: May Lucas
Skill Level: Beginner
Calling all forest adventurers and nature lovers! In this class, you’ll make whimsical fairy doors and friendly tree faces to bring the magic of the woods into your backyard. You’ll also create nature-inspired dishes — think overlapping leaves, twisty vines, and earthy textures. Whether you’re making a leafy snack plate or a secret door for forest creatures, this class is full of creative surprises!
These fun, hands-on classes are ideal for curious and creative children who enjoy hands-on crafting. We’ll playfully explore pottery using low-fire clay and colorful slips — and we’ll only fire once, so you’ll get your finished masterpiece quickly! Each class is a chance to sculpt, shape, and decorate your very own creation. No experience needed — bring your ideas and we’ll help you bring them to life!
Students will hand build with clay, adding texture and design. Students will select a glaze color from the available selection provided. The instructor will refine the work, bisque fire the student’s work, refine it again, apply the glaze, and then glaze fire the work. The instructor will refine it a third time before returning it to the Guild for pickup and distribution to the students for take-home. All glazes are food safe.
Students will be notified when the pieces are ready to be picked up, which is expected to be within 2-3 weeks of the class.
All tools and materials needed for the project, to include but not limited to, clay, underglazes, sprig molds, vinyl resist, texture tools, tissue transfers, glaze, bisque firing, glaze firing, and pottery refinement.
This class is appropriate for kids aged 10-15.
Each class is a one-day workshop. Pick your favorites — or sign up for all four! Classes will be held in July and August, allowing you to squeeze in some creative fun before school starts.
