Sashiko Mending – June 17

Instructor: William Jefferies

Skill Level:  All Levels Welcome

In this class, students will learn Sashiko, which is the Art of Japanese Mending. Its origins begin in Edo Period Japan. It began within the rural cultures of farmers and fishing communities and has evolved over centuries from a basic necessity into the decorative art that is cherished today. The word Sashiko means “little stabs”, which refers to the running stitch in the repeating and interlocking patterns. Each student will be provided with class materials.

Please note *** A materials fee of $35 is due to the instructor at the time of the class. (CashApp, Venmo, or PayPal)

Masks are not required to attend class, however, you may wear one if you want. Also, if you feel sick, please have the courtesy not to come to class. I am sure that arrangements can be made for a later date.

About the Instructor:
Hello there! My name is William and my obsession with the fashion industry started in 10th grade when I first learned screen printing and I began making t-shirts for family and friends. After high school, I embarked on a mission to gain further knowledge about the fashion industry attending Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts(AiYork) and the Art Institute of Philadelphia, graduating in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design. During college, I secured internships at SeanJohn and Undr Crwn Footwear &Apparel, as well as doing some freelance work for Elusion Clothing. I currently run a handmade denim company ( www.jackandjeffdenimco.com) doing custom projects or small batches. I have an online class, “ Sewing with Willie J: A Tote Bag Story”, on www.Skillshare.com as well as a sewing blog, www.WilliamSewFresh.weebly.com that I started at the beginning of 2023.
