The Bucks County Guild of Craftsmen (BCGC), located in southeastern PA, was established in 1946 and was formally organized in March 1952 when it became affiliated with the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Our membership is centered in Bucks County, with the majority of our members from Bucks and eastern Montgomery Counties and New Jersey.
We may not be the largest chapter (we now stand at 79 members) but over the years we have accomplished a number of serious and fun things! The chapter has been participating in PGC shows since 1952 and held its first local craft show in 1960. In 1979, a very large scrapbook (large as in 19” x 24” with a handmade wooden cover crafted by one of our members!) was created memorializing the early years of BCGC, highlighting the accomplishments of members as displayed in local newspapers.

In more recent years we have focused on doing outreach to the community. Our members donated art supplies to a local women’s shelter to give the children an art outlet. In the Spring of 2021, we awarded certificates to two students at Bucks County Community College majoring in art to recognize their outstanding work in the college’s student show. In addition to the certificate, we awarded a cash prize and free memberships in the PA Guild and the Bucks chapter. We plan on making this a yearly event. When we are again able to work in-person with children at the Bucks County Library we are planning a “grab bag” hands-on art project and we are looking forward to creating new partnerships with local groups.

About Our Meetings:

BCGC holds monthly membership meetings throughout the year, with a hiatus June – August. In addition to a short business meeting we include a variety of art-related programs. Topics have included demos by our members; studio tours; guest presentations on designing signage, business taxes and web design and hands-on member projects and more. This past year we held Zoom meetings and will continue to intersperse them with in-person meetings.

Our informative chapter newsletter, With These Hands, includes member profiles, lists of art-related resources and a variety of interesting pieces on art, programs and more. It can be viewed at With These Hands – Newsletter | BucksGuildCraftsmen.
