Instructor: Carol Reed

Skill Level: Beginner

Learn the basics of Indigo dyeing and Shibori, an ancient Japanese resist technique on cloth. In the morning students will help make an organic indigo vat using local honey and a synthetic indigo vat. While the vats are reducing, they will explore bound, clamped, and sewn Shibori methods on cotton and silk. In the afternoon students will dye their textiles. The materials fee includes all components of the indigo vats and many 8” to 12” squares of fabric to practice Shibori techniques, plus a 27” cotton bandana. Students may bring a cotton t-shirt from home or a yard of cotton material to dye if they wish. Please wear old clothes.

All materials are included in the tuition. This class is appropriate for teens to adults.
