Instructor: Dan Hayward
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Master Artisan Dan Hayward has created a number of new patterns for leaves. Available only during the Fall, this class offers each participant the opportunity to create an artwork that is unique in look and character. You may mix a combination of reds, oranges, and yellows representing Fall foliage or of greens for a Spring / Summer look. Dan’s selection of more conventional beginner-intermediate patterns are also available if you are not a budding arborist. Students will have the option to make Stained Glass Spiderwebs instead of Leaves as well.
Dan’s classes introduce participants to the tools and techniques to create works in stained glass using the copper foil method. The first day begins with a safety overview and an introduction to the tools used. Persons new to working with glass or those needing a refresher will practice cutting and breaking glass to become familiar with the basic tools and skills. Then you may select a pattern and glass. From there, Dan will guide you through the process of cutting and grinding glass for your selected pattern, applying copper foil, soldering the individual pieces together, and finally framing the piece.
The registration fee includes multiple patterns from which to choose, all glass, tools, and supplies. Each student will complete a stained glass panel of approximately one square foot.
Individuals who have participated in previous stained glass classes are welcome to return, and Dan will offer them more complex patterns OR you may design your own pattern with guidance and prior approval from Dan.
