Stained Glass Garden Stakes – March 19 & 26

Instructor: Dan Hayward

Skill Level: Beginner

A brightly colored stained glass garden stake provides an attractive focal point for any garden, entry point to a home, or even among plantings on a deck. Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen Master Artisan Dan Hayward will guide you through creating your own distinctive garden stake.  This is an ideal means to unleash your creativity and enjoy the beauty of brightly colored glass without the rigor of a traditional stained glass panel. Dan has a wide variety of patterns from which to choose, ranging from 10” t0 20” tall and 5”-6” wide.  More advanced students may, with Dan’s guidance, create their own pattern, or do a free-form design with only a rectangular shape as a guide.
Since garden stakes are an ideal medium to experiment with negative space, so that wind may blow through the piece, you may choose from a large collection of half-marbles or incorporate other found objects into your design. With Dan’s assistance, you will frame each stake in zinc came and solder a thin steel or zinc rod into the channel of came to facilitate pushing the stake into the earth.
Class includes all materials, tools, and supplies, including a wide selection of glass and half-marbles.
