Kitty Savel
Kitty Savel is a Fiber Artist who lives in and practices her art in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. Her Fiber Art includes paper and fabric collage, Embroidery, Slow Stitching, wood and found materials assemblage, knit and crochet, screen and block printing on paper and fabric. Kitty is self-taught with help and input from other Fiber Artists. She has taught and exhibited her fiber art at several venues in the Mid Atlantic States. Kitty is very sensitive to the inspirations around her in in her everyday life. She incorporates recycled materials in her collage and slow stitching work. Color plays a huge role in how Kitty approaches her work. She will take a tree, for instance, and depict it in fabric and paper in colors other than traditional green and brown. Kitty has taught fiber arts classes at several art venues including Center for Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh Fiber Arts Guild, Butler County Community College, Maryland Community College, Irman Freeman Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh Fiber Arts Festival, Fabric of Society York. Kitty has exhibited in galleries and museums. Her piece entitled "Color Lattice on Black" was a finalist in the Fusion Art's 3rd Annual Colors International Online Juried Art Exhibition for the month of February 2019. https://fusionartps.com/3rd-colors-art-exhibition-febuary-…/ She has won Honorable Mention for her sweater designs at North Hills Arts Center and her work was featured in the 2020 Achieving Women of Centre County held at the Bellefonte Art Museum in Pennsylvania. In 2026 she will be teaching at the Fiber Arts Fest in Tacoma, Washington and for the Pennsylvania Craftsman’s Guild. In 2024 Kitty collaborated with 10 other knit designers and Vogue Knitting Designer Deborah Newton on a book of hat designs entitled The Year of Hats. This book is available on Amazon and Ravelry. Sarah Summers
Sarah Summers grew up on a small Lititz farm where a menagerie of pets… horses, swans, peacocks, donkeys, chickens, goats, ducks, and more were all part of the family. At five, her artistic streak caught the eye of her teacher, who encouraged her parents to enroll her in formal art classes. Sarah studied art, mostly painting, throughout her school years. She later became a teacher herself, and her classroom memories are vivid with art-filled images. A favorite is of her 25 Kindergarteners sprawled on the floor painting giant yellow blossoms inspired by Eve Bunting’s “Sunflower House.” After retiring, Sarah dove into textile art and discovered needle felting in 2019. She was intrigued, but intimidated, since her art was mostly 2-dimensional. Venturing into the 3D realm of sculpting was a bit scary. Still, as a passionate animal lover, she saw this as an ideal medium for capturing their likeness and charm. Sarah quickly realized that sculpting in wool came naturally and, in fact, was very calming. The craft soon became a blessing, too, when Sarah found herself caring full-time for her elderly parents on the family farm. Every graceful swan, brilliant Cardinal, little fox, or likeness of a beloved pet that Sarah created brought them immense joy. The pure delight on their faces was priceless. Now her parents are gone, Sarah treasures knowing how much her tiny creatures contributed to their happiness. Always a teacher at heart, today Sarah enjoys instructing needle felting workshops, as well as producing custom pet sculptures. You can find her creations in Lititz at Artisan Mill and Purple Robin Reserve.
