Instructor: Denise Wilz
Skill Level: Beginner
This workshop focuses on a centuries-old clay decorating technique. “Sgraffito” means to “scratch” and you will draw and scratch a design on redware heart ornaments. There will be printed designs for your use or bring your own. No experience is needed – it’s as easy as using a pencil! The heart is 4 inches wide by 3 3⁄4 inches tall, and is 3/8 inch thick with a hole for the ribbon.
The ornaments arrive coated with white clay slip so you may begin to sgraffito as soon as you have your design ready. All the sgraffito tools and books for ideas are provided or bring your own. After the workshop, the ornaments will be dried, glazed, and fired – this takes 3 weeks or less. The ornaments include satin ribbons for hanging. You will be notified when the ornaments are shipped.
Additional ornaments are available for purchase – $15 per heart ornament – cash or check payment to the instructor. Maximum of 6 ornaments as time allows.
